8 Pattern

1.Explanation คือ การเขียนอธิบายข้อความที่เรามีอยู่แล้วเพื่อขยายความให้มีความเข้าใจมากยิ่งขึ้น ซึ่งการอธิบายความนี้จะแสดงถึงความสัมพันธ์ของบางส่วนและทั้งหมด  เราสามารถใช้อธิบายรูปภาพหรือประโยคข้อความ ซึ่งจะมีประโยคที่เป็นการเขียนแบบอธิบายความ ดังนี้

this is so because (ที่เป็นอย่างนี้เพราะ) 

The cause of this is that (สาเหตุสำหรับสิ่งนี้คือ) 

One of the reason is( เหตุผลอีกอย่างคือ) 

It means that (หมายความเช่นนั้น) 

The fact is that (ความจริงของสิ่งนี้คือ)  

The reason for this is that (เหตุผลสำหรับสางนี้คือ)

2.Comparison  and  Contrast

             เป็นรูปแบบการอธิบายถึงความคล้ายคลึงและความความแตกต่างกัน ระหว่างคน, สถานที่, กิจกรรม สิ่งของ และความคิด โดยมีการใช้การเปรียบเทียบความเหมือนและความแตกต่าง ซึ่งสิ่งชี้แนะในการแสดงการเปรียบเทียบความเหมือนและความต่าง มีดังนี้

3.Definition type

     เป็นชนิดของสิ่งแนะที่ชี้แสดงความหมายหรือนิยามคำศัพท์ที่ไม่คุ้นเคย

ซึ่งผู้อ่านสามารถสังเกตการนิยามความหมายของคำศัพท์ได้โดยการดูที่ตัวชี้แนะหรือคำสัญญาณ (clues signal words) ที่ปรากฏอยู่ในข้อความนั้นๆ ตัวชี้แนะหรือคำสัญญาณ ได้แก่

คำชี้แนะหรือคำสัญญาณดังกล่าวมาข้างต้นนี้ มีความหมายในทำนองเดียวกัน นั่นคือ แปลว่า "คือ , หมายถึง , หมายความว่า, เรียกว่า"

ตัวอย่าง  A premise is a statement of the relationship between a cause and a consequence.

อธิบาย premise เป็นคำศัพท์ที่ไม่คุ้นเคยis เป็นคำชี้แนะ หรือคำสัญญาณa statement of the relationship เป็นคำนิยามหรือความหมายของคำว่า premiseดังนั้น premise ก็คือ ข้อความที่แสดงความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างสาเหตุและผลลัพธ์- People who study the stars are called astronomers.

อธิบาย astronomers เป็นคำศัพท์ที่ไม่คุ้นเคยare called เป็นคำชี้แนะหรือคำสัญญาณpeople who study the stars เป็นคำนิยามหรือความหมายของคำว่า astronomersดังนั้นastronomers ก็คือ

คนที่ศึกษาเรื่องดวงดาว หรือนักดาราศาสตร์ นั่นเอง- A committee may be defined as any group interacting in regard to a common purpose.

อธิบาย committee เป็นคำที่ไม่คุ้นเคยmay be defined as เป็นคำสัญญาณ หรือตัวชี้แนะany group interacting in reagard to common purpose เป็นคำนิยามหรือความหมายของคำว่า committee ดังนั้น committee ก็คือ กลุ่ม หรือคณะบุคคลที่กระทำการใดๆ โดยมีจุดประสงค์ร่วมกัน

4.Process   Description   

Process   Description ใช้บอกรายละเอียดขั้นตอนวิธีการทำงาน ซึ่งเป็นจุดสำคัญที่ชัดเจนและง่ายต่อการปฏิบัติ

คำที่นิยมใช้ในประโยค Process Description ได้แก่ 

• firstly (ตอนแรก)
• to  begin  with (จะเริ่มต้นด้วย)
• to  start  with (เริ่มต้นด้วย)
• next (ต่อไป)
• then (ดังนั้น)   
• second (ประการที่สอง) 
• thirdly (ประการที่สาม) 
• after that and finally (หลังจากนั้นและในที่สุด)

        

 ตัวอย่างบทความ

     Even  if you have  never  cooked  before, you will never  starve  to death if  you know  how  to  cook  noodles  and  egg for  one  person .  Begin   with  heating three  bowls of water in a pot  over  high  heat. When  the  water  begins  boiling break  an  egg and add in  the  pot. Lower the heat   and   boil the  egg for  about  two minutes. Then   turn the heat high ; put 100g  of raw noodles  into  the boiling water, and boil  the  noodles and  egg for about  three minutes.

      Around 2 a.m. something woke Charles Hanson up. He lay in the dark listening. Something felt wrong. Outside, crickets sang, tree-frogs chirruped. Across the distant forest floated two muffled hoots from a barred owl. It was too quiet. At home in New Jersey, the nights are filled with the busy, comforting sounds of traffic. Here, even starlight failed to penetrate the 80-foot canopy of trees the camper was parked beneath.

       It was the darkest dark he had ever seen. He felt for the flashlight beside his bunk. It was gone. He found where his pants were hanging and, as he felt the pockets for a box of matches, something rustled in the leaves right outside the window, inches from his face. He Heard his wife, Wanda, hold her breath; she was awake, too. Then, whatever was outside in the darkness breathed, and the hugs silence of the night seemed to come inside the camper, stifling them. Charles suddenly decided to pack up and go to a motel.
